# Ithihasas

> An interactive explorer of characters, dynasties and relationships from the Rāmāyaṇa and Mahābhārata.

Ithihasas is a web application that visualises the social graphs of ancient Hindu epics through force-directed relationship graphs, dynasty family trees, chord diagrams of inter-group relationships, and character attribute radar charts.

## Epics

- **Rāmāyaṇa** by Valmiki — 7 Kandas, 100+ characters including Rama, Sita, Hanuman, Ravana, Lakshmana
- **Mahābhārata** by Vyasa — 18 Parvas, 100+ characters including the Pandavas, Kauravas, Krishna, Bhishma, Drona

## Deep Links

Characters and comparisons can be shared via URL parameters:
- `?char=<id>` — opens the character detail panel, e.g. `/ramayana?char=rama`
- `?cmp=<idA>,<idB>` — opens the comparison modal, e.g. `/ramayana?cmp=rama,sita`

Filter state is also URL-encoded:
- `?imp=<1-10>` — minimum importance filter
- `?g=<group-ids>` — filter by character group
- `?r=<roles>` — filter by role (protagonist, antagonist, supporting, sage, divine)

## Character Data

Each character includes: name, aliases, dynasty, role, group, importance score (1–10), strength/wisdom/dharma/political_power/divine_connection attributes, key events timeline, and relationships to other characters.
